Woman Who Died Of Machete Wounds Identified
Authorities have positively identified a woman found in a West Point gravel pit during the weekend who died from wounds sustained from a machete.
The victim has been identified as Michelle Dominique Robinson, age 43.
On Sunday Christopher Desmond Simpson, age 28, of Lamar Avenue, Lawrenceburg, was jailed at the Lawrence County Detention Center on first degree murder charges.
Authorities report that Robinson was found Saturday evening in a gravel pit off of Wisdom Road. She had allegedly sustained wounds from both a knife and a machete. She was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where she died Sunday from her injuries.
Officials had solicited information from the public during the weekend in an attempt to identify the victim. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department Detective Nathan Neese reported Monday afternoon that Robinson is a native of North Carolina. He said a positive identification was made through fingerprints taken during autopsy.
Robinson is said to have moved to Lawrenceburg after developing a relationship with Simpson. She had reportedly been living with him since April. Authorities had difficulty identifying Robinson because Simpson indicated he knew little about her other than her name. He reportedly maintains that the victim’s wounds were self-inflicted.
Simpson appeared for a bond hearing in Lawrence County General Sessions Court Monday. He currently remains incarcerated without bond.
